Does Sugar Feed Cancer? Hidden Names for Sugar list.

I have read numerous articles on this question, and there are many sides to the story.  My personal belief is cancer cells feed on sugar, grains work hand in hand with the sugar and create inflammation, which then taxes your immune system and leaves you open to disease.

My opinion is we need to stop eating all refined carbohydrates—white sugar, white flour, (all those yummy cakes and cookies you buy in the grocery store containing a laundry list of chemicals and preservatives along with high fructose corn syrup and other hidden sugars), soft drinks and sugar laden fruit juices.

There is so much written on the Integrative medicine side about sugar and cancer.  Still, many main stream facilities/doctors don’t agree.  But it seems they all suggest you eat a healthy diet of fruits and vegetables and exercise.  They say that obesity increases your risk of many types of cancer. So, get off the American diet of processed foods, refined sugars, fried foods in rancid oils and get onto an organic (if you can afford it) Vegetarian diet, Mediterranean diet or one that incorporates lots of fresh vegetables and fruits.  There are so many healthy eating plans out there, and picking one you will stick to, will add better health to your life.  Just get off the processed packaged foods laden with hidden sugar, bad fats, preservatives and chemicals.  Read your labels.  I refuse to purchase anything that isn’t just food in the ingredient list.

Learn the different names for sugar and how it is hidden in processed foods under the following names:Agave Nectar, Anhydrous dextrose, Barley Malt, Barbados Sugar, Beet sugar, Blackstrap Molasses, Brown Rice Syrup, Brown Sugar, Buttercream, Buttered sugar, Cane Juice Crystals, Cane Juice, Cane Sugar, Caramel, Carob Syrup, Castor Sugar, Coconut Palm Sugar, Coconut Sugar, Confectioner’s Sugar, Corn Sweetener, Corn Syrup, Corn Syrup Solids, Crystalline Fructose, Fructose, Date Sugar, Dehydrated cane juice, Demerara Sugar, Dextrin, Dextrose, Diastatic Malt, Diatase, Ethyl Maltol, Evaporated Cane Juice, Evaporated Cane Syrup, Florida Crystals, Fruit Juice Concentrates, Galactose, Glazing Sugar, Glucose, Glucose Solids, Golden Sugar, Golden Syrup, Grape Sugar, Granulated Sugar, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Honey, Icing Sugar, Invert Sugar, Lactose, Malt Syrup, Maltodextrin, Maltol, Mannose, Maltose, Maple Syrup, Molasses Syrup, Muscovado Sugar, Organic Raw Sugar, Oat Syrup, Palm Sugar, Panela, Panocha, Pancake Syrup, Powdered Sugar, Confectioners’ Sugar, Refiners Syrup, Rice Bran Syrup, Rice Syrup, Sorghum, Sorghum Syrup, Sucrose, Sugar, Syrup, Sucanat, Treacle, Tapioca Syrup, Turbinado Sugar, Yellow Sugar, White Sugar.

Featured is my sweet treat I call “Banana Sushi.”  This version is made from 1 small organic banana, organic strawberries and nut butter. Sometimes I use organic raw almonds or walnuts instead of the berries. Try using 85% dark chocolate on it.  Easy and a healthy snack when you feel the need for a treat.  There are so many ways to indulge without the processed sugars, or bad ingredients.  Just be careful and always do it in moderation.

  1. My distant cousin Alis:

Just finished your book – our cousin Mardie Geiser sent it to me as I was diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma of the lung in March after almost dying from sepsis. I am a nurse and worked two 12 hour shifts the two days before I spiked the fever.

My question to you is if you were starting over, would you do Mayo’s and chemo again. I get the diet, exercise etc but wonder how you would do it if you had to make the decision now.

I’ve just finished 6 rounds of chemo with it shrinking tumors on right lung but tumors on left lung grew and there were 2 new ones. So plan of treatment is going to change

I rowed for 2 years in college by the way – loved it!

    Appreciate your response

    1. Dear Nancy,
Thank you for your email. I am so sorry to hear of your circumstances. My answer to your question is no, I would not do Chemotherapy again. In my experience, chemo was effective in shrinking my tumors, but it didn’t kill the cancer stem cells and the cancer came back. It killed my immune system and spread the cancer. I believe there is no cure with this protocol, just remission if you are lucky.
My choice would be to go back to my Integrative Medical doctor and do the Protocol that actually made my second tumor disappear—High potency Vitamin C therapy 50mg and I-Therm therapy. I did a 6-week program 2-3 times a week. I am still doing the Vitamin C therapy every 3 weeks as a maintenance plan along with all my vitamins and diet. I know I can never let my guard down and it will always be an ongoing battle to stay healthy.
If you choose to stay with chemo, Integrative Oncology may be something you should investigate. They build up your immune system as they give you mainstream cancer care. Keeping your body strong is important. I pray for your recovery and healing.
